Quartet Ajaton (Finland),
Kari Ikonen & Ilia Belorukov (Finland – Russia)
The unconventional and extraordinary Quartet Ajaton creates four-dimensonal music that burns previous definitions into ashes. The siren-like voice and vividly glowing bandoneon lures the audience to uncharted waters, whereafter the ancient gamba mummifies the listener and the enigmatic Moog abducts into foreign galaxies… Bringing together musicians who represent a host of musical styles and periods, Ajaton, ‘timeless’ in English, are true to their name. This quartet, like its instrumentation and repertory, is a sum of intriguing, seemingly incompatible parts: improvised landscapes, reminiscences of folk music, hints to medieval lute ditties and original compositions intertwine seamlessly in their hands. The category-evading quartet issued their debut, Elixir, on vinyl and wood disc in 2016.
